Dorothy Marie Iungerich

Dorothy Marie Iungerich, 99, of Covington, Indiana, formerly of Hoopeston, passed away at 8:30 p.m. est. Saturday, July 1, 2017, at The Waters of Covington.
Dorothy was born on May 27, 1918, in rural Henning, Illinois, the daughter of Stanley and Dora (Gladding) Leonard. She married Ray Lloyd Iungerich on March 10, 1940, at her parent's home. Ray "Bud" and Dorothy had 63 years together before his passing on July 30, 2003.
She is survived by one daughter- Marilyn Matthews of Danville; two sons- Larry (Ren) Iungerich of Evans, Georgia and Glenn (Ylonda) Iungerich of Covington, Indiana; six grandchildren- David (Laurie) Matthews, James Matthews, Eric Iungerich, Jeffrey (Rachael) Iungerich and Abbee Iungerich and Taylor Iungerich; eleven great-grandchildren-Ellie, Eli and Emma Matthews, Summer, Judith and Cortney Matthews, Holly, Kyler and Kamdin Boudreau, Scarlet Iungerich and Tate Iungerich; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, bother- Charles Leonard,infant son and step-grandson- Jonathan Pickett.
Dorothy graduated from Henning High School, in 1936 and was the class Valedictorian. She spent many years as a farm wife and mother before moving to Hoopeston in 1959, to Covington and then to St. James City, Florida, where she worked and then retired as a rural mail carrier. Ray and Dorothy moved back to Hoopeston in 2000.
A Celebration of Dorothy's Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 6, 2017, at the Blurton Funeral Home in Hoopeston. Visitation will be from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Private family burial will follow the service at East Lynn Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Dorothy's name to the donor's choice. The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Dorothy's life.
