Bertha Hammerton

Bertha V. Hammerton, 107, of Peoria and formerly of the East Lynn-Hoopeston area, passed away at 9:50 A.M. on Tuesday, July 25, 2017 at Heddington Oaks Nursing Home.
Born July 20, 1910 at Hoopeston, Illinois, she was the daughter of John and Maude Benham. She married Kenneth Hammerton on February 20, 1929, at Danville, Illinois. He passed in September 2000.
Surviving is one son- Wayne (Loah) Hammerton of Peoria, Il; one daughter- Karen(Oliver)Long of Grass Valley, CA; six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and one brother.
Mrs. Hammerton graduated from John Greer High School in 1928. She spent fifty- seven and one half years on the family farm north of East Lynn, four years on a farm in Antioch area, as well as ten years living in Hoopeston. In July, 2001 Bertha moved to Peoria to be near her son, Wayne Hammerton.
She was a member of the East Lynn and Hoopeston Methodist churches. She loved spending time with family, grandchildren and great grandchildren. Bertha especially enjoyed decorating for Christmas and continued decorating until she reached 100 years old.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hammerton will be held at 11:00 A.M. Saturday, July 29, 2017 at Blurton Funeral Home, 309 East Washington Street, Hoopeston. Pastor Bruce McQuigg will officiate. Burial will be at Floral Hills Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour prior to service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to New Beginnings Church, Hoopeston, Illinois.
