John D. Cox, 79, of Potomac, passed away at 2:23 p.m. Monday, March 5, 2018, at Carle Foundation Hospital, in Urbana.
Mr. Cox was born on December 8, 1938, in Hillsboro, Ohio, the son of John H. and Miriam (Blackmore) Cox. He married Shirley Boen on April 18, 1959, at the Catlin Church of Christ. She survives.
He is also survived by three daughters- Cindy (Jay) Young of Potomac, Sherrie (Eric) Thompson of Rantoul and Denise (Bert Pitchford) Ingalsbe of Potomac; nine grandchildren- Brandi (Nick) Brines, Marcy (Andy King) Young, Jason (Jeni Barney) Young, Ben (Amber) Self, Kyle Parks, Lindsey (Kyle) Lewis, Jared Ingalsbe, Kayla (Josh) Pannbacker and Brandon Ingalsbe; 15 great-grandchildren; one sister- Lois Ann Walker of Cincinnati, Ohio; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his many beloved pets.
Mr. Cox served in the United States Air Force. He worked as an electrician for several years at Chanute Air Force Base and the VA in Danville, until his retirement. He enjoyed watching baseball and basketball and was an avid Cubs and Illini fan. He also enjoyed collecting coins, baseball cards and sports memorabilia. John loved animals and will be missed by his cat Sassy. He loved his family so much and he will be greatly missed by them.
A Celebration of John Cox’s Life will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, March 10, 2018, at the Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac, with Pastor Randy Walters officiating. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. He will be laid to rest in Potomac Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the Middlefork Ambulance Service.
