Mary Stagen Obituary

Mary Elizabeth Stagen, 84, of Armstrong, IL went home to be with the lord at 4:17 p.m. on Sunday, July 15, 2018 at her home.

Mary (Stiger) Stagen was born August 2, 1933 in Farmer city, IL, daughter to Ivan and Jennie (Gose) Stiger.  She married Donald Stagen on July 5, 1953 at Prairie Chapel Church Farmer City.  He survives.

Survivors also include three sons- Randy (Pam) Stagen of Armstrong, Rusty Stagen of Summerville, TN, Rick (June) Stagen of South Bend, IN; three Grandchildren-Kendra (Chris) Milliken, Danielle (Travis) Stephens, Dustin (Makalie Ross) Stagen; 9 step grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren, and 15 step great-grandchildren.  Also surviving one brother Merwyn (Mary) Stiger of Fisher, Il.  She was preceded in death by her parents and one great-granddaughter Alyssa Stephens.

Mary graduated from Moore Township High School, Farmer City, in 1952.  She enjoyed her time as a home maker with her 3 children, 4 foster children (Linda, Stephen, Stephanie, and Kendra Jo), and grandchildren.

Mary was an avid genealogist.  She enjoyed many hours at the local libraries and cemeteries researching her family, her hometowns, cemetery history, and her high school’s history.   In her spare time, she enjoyed crocheting and teaching her granddaughters how to help pass down the lost art.  Any one that knows Mary knows she also collected clocks.  Her home included well over 100 clocks that were set to chime for 15 minutes straight.

One of the highlights about Mary was that she was a big part of getting a new playground and parking lot for the Armstrong Grade School.  She took charge and did all that needed to be done and help improve the area for all.

In her later years, she spent 9 years as a dietary aid at Gifford nursing home.  She would enjoy her drive home talking to her husband and granddaughters on the CB radio, ordering her favorite peach milkshakes and watching Jonny Carson with us.

A Celebration of Mary Stagen’s Life will be held at 12:00 p.m. Thursday, July 19, 2018, at Middlefork United Methodist Church, in Potomac, with Pastor George Desmond officiating.  Visitation will be 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the church prior to services.  She will be laid to rest in Maple Grove Cemetery, Farmer City, Illinois.  Memorials may be made to Middlefork United Methodist Church or Donor’s Choice.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Mary’s life.  Memories or photos may be shared with the family on her everlasting memorial page at: www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.
