David E. Cessna Obituary

David E. Cessna, 86, of Potomac, passed away at 2:37 p.m. Monday, July 8, 2024, at his home.

He was born on May 25, 1938, in Danville, the son of Eldon and Ina (Tillotson) Cessna.  He married Carolyn A. Thigpen on October 19, 1962, in Albany, Georgia.  She preceded him in death on January 7, 2023.

He is also survived by five sons- Ricky Elder of Potomac, Cleatus Elder of Potomac, Randy (Shelly) Cessna of Potomac, Keith Cessna of Potomac and Chris (Heidi) Cessna of San Diego, California; twelve grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers- Robert, John and Mont Cessna, and two sisters- Nancy Ramm and Ina Jean Bailey.

David graduated from Armstrong High School, in 1956.  He served in the United States Marine Corp, from 1959 to 1963.  He began working for Teepak, as an engineer in 1965 and worked there until 1983, when he became a lab tech and later a maintenance supervisor at Howard Industries, until 1992.  He later worked as a truck driver until his retirement.  David was a past member of the Hope United Church of Christ.  He enjoyed gardening, playing golf, playing cards and tinkering around the house.

A Celebration of David’s Life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, July 11, 2024, at the Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac, with Pastor Randy Holden officiating.  The visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Thursday, at the funeral home.  The burial will be held in the Potomac Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to the Potomac Food Pantry.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring David’s life.  Condolences may be shared with the family on his everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.
