Dorothy Arlene Jaynes, 95, of Hartville, OH, formerly of Danville, IL, passed away Saturday, May 9th, 2026, at her home.


A Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, June 13th, 2026, at the Danville First Church of the Nazarene, with Pastor David Anderson officiating. Burial will take place in Sunset Memorial Park following the services.  According to her wishes cremation rites have been arranged.  Blurton Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.  Memorial donations can be sent to Danville First Church of the Nazarene or the Jaynes Scholarship Fund at Olivet Nazarene University.


Mrs. Jaynes was born on April 13, 1931, on a farm south of Homer, IL, the daughter of Mark and Georgia Howard, who are deceased.  She is survived by one sister- Joan Robinson of Greenbrae, CA, a niece and several nephews.  A brother, Max Alan and two sisters, Marjorie Jane and Mary Ellis, are deceased.  Also, a brother-in-law, Dale Ellis, nephew, Scott Robinson and a great-nephew, Samuel Robinson.


Arlene married Paul Jaynes on February 26, 1956, at Bismarck ME Church.  They had two sons: Perry Alan (Sherry) Jaynes, who is deceased and John Howard (Susan) Jaynes of Hartville, OH. Step-daughter: Paula (Bruce) Randolph; Four grandchildren: Adam (Ashton) Jaynes, Lauren (Scott) Korhage, Shelby (Steve) Kittrell and Brandon (Savanna) Jaynes and five great-grandchildren.  Step-grandson, Troy Wallen and step-great-granddaughter, Maxie Wallen.


She attended grade schools at Perrysville, IN, Homer, IL and Fairmount, IL, graduating from the Fairmount Community High School, in 1949.  She was employed by the University of Illinois and later moved to Danville, where she was manager of the record department at Kamp Music, Inc.  She was also employed at the Danville Chamber of Commerce and Cargill Grain Co. at Henning, IL.  She retired from Iroquois Federal Savings and Loan, in 1993.


Arlene had a love for music and sang solos at many events through the years.  She was a featured soloist in the two Danville Jr. Woman’s Club Follies in the 1950’s.  Her desire was to sing with the USO during the Korean Conflict.  When that didn’t work out, she joined the Leon Vogel dance band as soloist.  She was guest soloist for several area dance bands as well.  For a time, Arlene was the lead singer in a modern harmony group called “The Moods” in Indianapolis, IN and sang on the Harmony Hotel show on WFBM-TV.


She was one of the founders of the Danville Light Opera and its first secretary.


After marrying Paul in 1956, they farmed for many years in the Bismarck, Collison and Potomac areas before purchasing Hoopeston Implement Co, and International Harvester dealership in Hoopeston, IL. 


They later moved to Bismarck, IL and then to Danville, IL, where she enjoyed being a member of the YMCA Silver Sneakers exercise group.  She later moved to Winston-Salem, NC, where she attended Harmon Grove Methodist Church and the lived in the past year in Hartville, OH.


She was a member of the Danville First Church of the Nazarene and for many years sang solos and she had been a member of the church choir.  She was on the Missionary Committee and the church’s prayer chain.  She also founded the Jaynes Scholarship Fund at Olivet Nazarene University.  Arlene was one of the founders of Just For Me free clothing ministry in Danville.  She was also a Medicare Board Member at Health Alliance Insurance, in Urbana, IL.


She loved helping people in need and enjoyed playing games with family and friends.  She loved her Lord and family most of all.
