Dow Cooksey Obituary

Dow J. Cooksey, 94, peacefully went to the Lord Saturday, October 26, 2024. Proceeded in death by his parents Alva Dow Cooksey & Virgie (Pate) Cooksey Musk, sisters Clara Long, Darlene Cade, Margaret Crothers, Dorothy Cox, brothers (twins) Hubert & Hugh Cooksey, Arthur Musk, and many beloved brothers-in-law, aunts, uncles, cousins, nephews, nieces, and dear friends. 

He is survived by several nieces, nephews, great nieces & nephews, cousins, and beloved friends. 

He graduated from John Greer High School, Hoopeston, IL, with 2 years at Danville Area Community College. He was faithful in attendance at Hoopeston United Methodist Church prior to joining St. James United Methodist Church in Danville, IL in 1980, where he loved his church family dearly. 

He started as a bookkeeper at Yarbrough Nash Sales, in 1962 he started at Fidelity Savings & Loan, Danville, and in 1975 went to First Savings & Loan/First Savings as Vice President until retirement in 2009.

He was a member in Kiwanis, Illiana Genealogical Society, Family Services Bureau, and Sons of the American Revolution.

Dow was and avid reader and loved plays and Shakespeare. 

Services will be held at St James United Methodist Church, 504 N. Vermillion St., Danville. Visitation will be 10am – 11am, with services directly following. Burial will be at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, Il.
