Eldon Dean Huls Obituary

Eldon Dean Huls, 81, of Armstrong, passed away at 4:03 p.m. on Wednesday, August 28, 2024, at Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

Born on April 14, 1943, in Danville, Illinois, Eldon was the son of Wilhelm and Anna (Bluhm) Huls. He married Janet Kay Husted on October 23, 1966, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Champaign, and she survives.

Eldon is also survived by his two sons, James Huls of Mahomet and Richard (Kelly) Huls of Bloomington; four grandchildren, Rachel, Jacob, Taylor, and Lana Huls; his sister-in-law, Joan Huls of Danville; several nieces and nephews; and his cherished dog, Teddy. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Eugene and Earl Huls.

A graduate of Armstrong High School, Eldon served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1965. He dedicated over 30 years to working as an airplane mechanic, instructor, and supervisor at Chanute Air Force Base before retiring in 1993. He later worked for 10 years at Hoveln Heating and Cooling. Eldon was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, in Flatville. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and working on projects around his home, but his greatest joy came from spending time with his grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 6, 2024, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Flatville, with Pastor Scott Smith officiating. Burial with full military honors by American Legion Post #210 will follow at Danville National Cemetery. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 5, 2024, at Blurton Funeral Home, 400 N. Vermilion St., Potomac, IL 61865. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association in Eldon’s honor.
