Eleanor May (Compton) Mann Obituary

Eleanor May (Compton) Mann, 92, of Hoopeston, passed away at 9:45 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2024, at Heritage Health, in Hoopeston.

She was born on June 3, 1932, in Danville, the daughter of Joe and Lula K. (Manning) Compton.  She was previously married to Raymond Joseph Mann II on March 7, 1953, in Waukegan, Illinois.

She is survived by two daughters- Betty (Ron) Ervin of Littleton, Colorado and Nancy Mann of Hoopeston; one son- Phillip Mann of Kenosha, Wisconsin; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three sons- Raymond Mann III, Steve Mann and Howard Mann, two daughters- Bonnie Gerlits and Kathy Mann, one brother- Joe Compton, two sisters- Alma Roberts and Jean Fanning and one infant brother- James Willie Compton.

Eleanor graduated from John Greer High School.  She worked for several years as a preschool teacher at Head Start, until her retirement.  She was a member of the Hoopeston Church of the Nazarene.  She loved nature and enjoyed working in her yard, planting flowers, decorating for the holidays and spending time with her children and grandchildren.  Eleanor was blessed to have fantastic neighbors who were like extended family to her, and she was very close to her church family who were a great support system for her.

Graveside services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 25, 2024, at Floral Hill Cemetery, in Hoopeston, with Pastor Tom McCann officiating.  Memorials may be made to the donor’s choice.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Eleanor’s life.  Condolences may be shared with the family on her everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.
