Henrietta P. (Bateman) Grubbs Obituary

Henrietta “Henny” Grubbs, 97, of Danville, passed away at 5:40 p.m. Wednesday, July 3rd, 2024, OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center.

She was born on January 22, 1927, in Danville, the daughter of David C. and Mattie Ellen (Conley) Bateman.  She married Wayne L. Grubbs on August 13, 1946, in Danville.  He preceded her in death on July 20, 1990.

She is survived by four daughters- Kathy (Tony) Hanson of Danville, Mary Jo (Art) Pepelea of Anderson, Indiana, Jamie Tavine of Springfield, Illinois, and Nancy (Bob) Cowan of Springfield, Illinois; one son- John (Colleen) Grubbs of Lisle,  Illinois; eleven grandchildren- Teena (Jonathan) Dixon, Adam Grubbs, Erin (John) Lamb, Artie (Alissa) Pepelea, Amy (Joe) Kessler, Jill (Joe Bickhaus) Tavine, Leah (Sean) Stutler, Samantha (Matthew) Wodcki, Kristie (Jessie)Weiss, Megan Grubbs and Austin Grubbs; twenty great-grandchildren- Ella, Nolan and Greysan Dixon, Cayden and Nora Lamb, Isabella, Theodora, Louden and Cameron Kessler, Morgan, Quintin and Jackson Pepelea, Lucas and Olivia Wodcki and Jackson and Mason Stutler Arlan and Zane Grubbs, Troy Berendes and Logan English; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, son- Tim Grubbs, grandson- Seth Tavine, five sisters and two brothers.

Henrietta graduated from Danville High School, in 1945.  She spent most of her time raising her six children and helping Wayne operate the local Baskin-Robbins.  She was a member of St. Paul’s Catholic Church.  Henny enjoyed playing cards, spending time with her grandchildren and traveling to Walt-Disney World.  She loved Christmas time, having parties with her family and friends and especially going to family reunions.

The family of Henrietta would like to extend a special thanks to Barbara Robinson and family for their continued love and care for their mom.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, July 9, 2024, at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, with Father John Cyr officiating.  Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, at the church.  She will be laid to rest following the mass in Resurrection Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Schlarman Academy Scholarship Fund.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac to assist them in honoring Henrietta’s life.  Condolences may be shared with the family on her everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.
