Joan Frances Gillespie, 87, of Fithian, passed away at 6:20 a.m. Wednesday, August 29, 2018, at Hawthorne Inn, in Danville.
She was born on September 6, 1930, in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Lawrence and Mary (Ritschel) Gilles. She married Sidney Gillespie on June 26, 1964, in Danville. He preceded her in death in August of 1972.
She is survived by one daughter- Deborah Edmondson of Louisville, Kentucky, three sons- Patrick (Denise) Gillespie of Danville, Paul Gillespie of Fairmount and Joe Gillespie of Fithian; one brother- Bernard (Mary) Gilles of Kickapoo, Illinois; one sister- Christine (George) Lafollette of Oak Hill, Illinois; ten grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sister- Carol Fairbank, brother- Charles Gilles and daughter-in-law- Karen Gillespie.
Joan worked for over 30 years as a bookkeeper for area automotive dealerships. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Joan enjoyed genealogy, crossword puzzles, watching cooking shows and spending time with her family and grandchildren.
A Celebration of Joan Frances Gillespie’s Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2018, at Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac. She will be laid to rest following the service in Embury Cemetery. Visitation will be from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. Saturday, at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Scleroderma Foundation. The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Joan’s life.
