Marie Morts, 100, of Milford, passed away at 6:52 a.m. Thursday, June 6, 2024, at Autumn Fields, in Hoopeston.
She was born on October 8, 1923, in Cutmer (Iroquois County), Illinois, the daughter of Bennie and Eva (Dezern) Bury. She married Francis Morts on December 26, 1943, at her parents’ home. He preceded her in death on October 23, 2014.
She is survived by one son- Stephen Morts of Milford; one daughter- Sharon (Mark) Van Hoveln of Mooresville, North Carolina; four grandchildren- Scott Morts of Milford, Troy (Amy) Van Hoveln of Milford, Brent (Amy) Van Hoveln of Franklin, Tennessee and Christina (Matt) Baude of Mooresville, North Carolina; twelve great-grandchildren- Ethan Morts of Milford, Emma Morts of Indianapolis, Evelyn Morts of Milford, Colin Van Hoveln, Finley Van Hoveln, Lila Van Hoveln all of Osceola, Indiana, Isabelle Van Hoveln, Beck Van Hoveln, Cam Van Hoveln all of Franklin, Tennessee, Madelyn Baude, Olivia Baude and Nora Baude all of Mooresville, North Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter-in-law- Donna Morts and sister- Louise Nelson.
Marie graduated from John Greer High School, in 1941, as the valedictorian of her class. After school, she worked at Food Machinery until she got married. She was a devoted farm wife and loved to sit in her call all day long just to watch them farm. She was a member of the Milford United Methodist Church, where she was involved in the women’s group and study group. She also served as a Sunday School teacher. Marie was also a former Girl Scouts Leader and Boy Scout’s Den Mother. She enjoyed knitting, doing crossword puzzles and spending time with her great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 10, 2024, at Blurton Funeral Home, in Hoopeston. Graveside services will follow the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Monday, at Sugar Creek Cemetery, in Milford, with Kevin Price officiating. Memorials may be made in Marie’s name to the Milford United Methodist Church, Milford Ambulance or Milford Swimming Pool.
