Marvin L. Buhrmester, 89, of Hoopeston, passed away at 1:55 p.m. Tuesday, December 8, 2015, at Heritage Health in Hoopeston.
Mr. Buhrmester was born on February 16, 1926, in Woodland, Illinois, the son of Ben and Bessie (Gillins) Buhrmester. He married Betty Matthews on March 15, 1948. She preceded him in death on November 12, 2008.
He is survived by one daughter- Shirley (Joe) Fell of Hoopeston; one son- Terry Buhrmester of Hoopeston; nine grandchildren- Drynda Cordaro, Crystal Robinson, Rob O'Neal, Terry McPherson, Kellie Ferrel, Patty Morgeson, Bonnie Bell, Linda Warner and Aaron Fell; several great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife-Betty, two grandchildren- William Buhrmester and Shelly McCauley, two brothers and two sisters.
Marvin served in the United States Navy during WWII. He worked as a foundry worker for several years. Marvin was a life member of the VFW where he served as past Commander and he was also a member of the Hoopeston American Legion. He was also an avid Chicago Cubs fan.
Visitation will be from 4:00-7:00 p.m. Friday, December 11, 2015 at the Blurton Funeral Home in Hoopeston. According to his wishes cremation rites will be accorded following the visitation. Services and burial will be held at a later date in Floral Hill Cemetery with full military honors to be conducted. Memorials may be made to the Iroquois Hospice, Hoopeston VFW Post #4826 or the Hoopeston American Legion Post #384.
