Mervin “The Old Man” Louis Jones, 83, a lifelong resident of Hope, passed away at 3:58 a.m. Sunday, June 11, 2023, at OSF Sacred Heart Medical Center, in Danville.
Mervin was born on July 6, 1939, in Danville, Illinois, the son of Carl Evans and Margaret A. (Campbell) Jones.
He is survived by two sons- Michael Louis Jones of Hope and Steven Todd (Susan) Jones of Wonder Lake, Illinois; two grandchildren- Stephanie (Jordan) Paxton and Aaron Jones; one sister- Pat James of Indianapolis, Indiana; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister- Carlene Randall.
Mervin graduated from Armstrong Township High School in 1958. He worked as a lifelong farmer in the Hope area. He was a member of the Hope United Church of Christ. Mervin loved cars, building motors, racing cars and was a dedicated Ford man.
According to his wishes cremation rites will be accorded and a celebration of his life will be held at a later date and a private family burial will be held at Embury Cemetery. Memorials may be made in Mervin’s name to the donor’s choice. The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home, in Potomac, to assist them in honoring Mervin’s life.
