Myrtle "Betty" E. Prillaman Obituary

Myrtle E “Betty” Prillaman 01/10/1937 – 11/28/2024

Betty Prillaman left this earth on Thanksgiving Day to be with her parents, Dean and Lucille Mixon, and her beloved Jay R. Prillaman, who all preceded her in death.

Betty was born in Peoria, IL but soon moved with her family to Spring Bay, where she helped raise her three brothers, Harold (Barbara, deceased) Mixon, David (Rhonda) Mixon and Howard (Janet) Mixon. All her brothers survive.  She left Spring Bay when she married Ralph McCoy, and they had three children, Diane (Jim) Sibley, of Chillicothe, IL, Roger (Sharon) McCoy, of Hendersonville NC, and Mary (Mike) Grohskopf, of Wentzville, MO.

After Ralph and her divorced, Betty met and married her love, Jay Prillaman. He preceded her in death in 2019. Jay gave Betty two stepdaughters, whom she loved like her own children. Lisa (Mark) Galliart of Hudson, IL and Laura (Jim)Steffey of Tremont, IL completed their blended family.  Betty last worked as an underwriter for Mass Mutual Insurance Co. in Charlotte NC. After she retired, she and Jay lived in Vero Beach FL for many years. Betty last made her home in Chillicothe IL, and she died at Henry Rehab and Nursing.  Family was her first priority, but Betty also loved playing bridge with Jay and also loved her counted cross-stitch and crossword puzzles. Most of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren have at least one of Grandma Betty’s cross-stitch works of art.  Betty is survived by her three children and two stepdaughters, as well as her three brothers. She and Jay also had a combined total of 14 grandchildren and 19 (and counting) great-grandchildren, all of whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Cremation rites have been accorded. Betty will be buried in the Rossville, IL cemetery on April 11, 2025, at 1:00 pm. beside her beloved Jay.
