Retta Mae Childers, passed away peacefully in her sleep, into the arms of Jesus on February 4, 2021. 
 

She was born to Henry L. and Mary Ellen Horton, in Paris, Illinois on April 21, 1930.  Retta married Abbie A. Childers on July 11, 1950.  They shared the same birthday three years apart.  To this union were born five children, Nora Ellen (Justin Attutis), Christina Marie (Lyle Puzey), Jona Ruth (Shawn Bennett), Kathy Jane (Mark Showers), William Childers (Marie Jeanne).

She is survived by her children, ten grandchildren, twelve great-grandchildren: two sisters-Juanita and Mary Ruth, two brothers- Leo and Leslie.

She was preceded in death by her husband Abbie of 60 years, her parents, one brother, Tom, and one great-grandson, Alex.

Retta worked at GE for 25 years.  She was a member of Grape Creek Baptist Church, where she served as a Sunday School teacher and deaconess.  Her witness for her Savior was constant and consistent and evidenced by her pretty smile.

A Celebration of Retta’s Life will be held at 1:00 p.m. Monday, February 8, 2021, at Grape Creek Baptist Church, 13674 Grape Creek Road, with Pastor David Leary officiating.  Burial will follow the service in Sunset Memorial Park.  Visitation will be from 12:00 p.m. to 1:00 p.m. Monday, at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Grape Creek Baptist Church.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Retta’s life.  Condolences may be sent to Retta’s family on her everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.
