He was born on August 20, 1942, in Danville, the son of Herman and Bertha M. (Sims) Boen.  He married Marilyn Reed on October 13, 1963, in Potomac.  She survives.

He is also survived by two sons- Dougals K. (Laurie) Boen of Georgetown, Illinois and Darren W. Boen of Minnetonka, Minnesota; granddaughter- Ashley (Luke Paxton) Boen; step-granddaughter- Alyssa (Dillon) Neff; seven great-grandchildren- Ashton Pilkington, Keely, Kole, Knoll, Wren and Lane Paxton and Riley Neff; brother- John Boen of Oakwood; sister- Barbara Wolfe of Newburgh, Indiana; special friend of the family- Craig Morton of Minnetonka, Minnesota; and many special nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, sister-in-law- Claudine Boen and brother-in-law- Norman Wolfe.

Bill graduated from Oakwood High School.  He worked for 28 years at Teepak in Danville and then for 5 years at Conagra, until his retirement.  Bill loved going to the Indianapolis 500 to cheer on his favorite driver AJ Foyt.  He attended the race for over 40 years in a row and loved to take someone new to the race and see the excitement in their eyes as they watched the race for the first time.  He was also a NASCAR fan as long as Dale Earnhardt Sr. was driving the black number 3.  He loved to mow his grass, trim the bushes and wash his vehicles.  Bill enjoyed being with his family, but he would always light up when he saw his great-grandchildren.

A Celebration of Bill’s Life will be held at 11:30 a.m. Monday, September 16, 2024, at the Blurton Funeral Home, with Pastor George Desmond officiating.  Visitation will be from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. Monday, at the funeral home.  Burial will follow the service in the Potomac Cemetery.  Memorials may be made in Bill’s name to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.  The family has entrusted the Blurton Funeral Home to assist them in honoring Bill’s life.  Condolences may be shared with the family on his everlasting memorial page at:  www.BlurtonFuneralHomes.com.
