William "Bill" Charles Galloway Obituary

William “Bill” Charles Galloway, aged 87, of Rossville, passed away at his residence at 2:22 p.m. on Saturday, February 22, 2025.

Bill was born on November 23, 1937, in Birmingham, Alabama, to Wesley and Mary Galloway. He entered into marriage with Iris Bainbridge on February 8, 1958, at the Prairie Green Church of Christ in Hoopeston. She survives him.

He is survived by his four daughters: Leigh Ann (Dave) Janavage of Rossville, Joy (Wade) Gocking of Hoopeston, Jan Galloway of Rossville, and Amy (Greg) Brant of Collison; three grandchildren: Brady Gocking of Hoopeston, Keighlee (Taylor Turner) Brant of Danville, and Anniston Brant of Collison; his brother Otis Galloway of Wellington; his sister Dot Woods of Westville; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, in-laws William and Ruth Cox, who treated him like a son, in-laws-Ira and Mary Bainbridge, son-in-law Larry Ward, four sisters, and one brother.

Bill attended Wellington High School. He worked for the Village of Rossville, Rossville Canning Factory, and on his family farm. Later, he spent 32 years at General Motors until retiring in 1995. From 1984 to 2003, Bill and Iris owned the Ole Country Inn restaurant in Rossville and Bill helped there after he retired. Bill was a member of the Rossville Church of Christ and served twice on the Rossville Village Board. In his youth, he coached little league. He enjoyed fishing with his grandson, helping others, and a good cup of coffee. Family, especially his grandchildren, meant a lot to him. Before his health declined, he looked forward to bowhunting again. Bill always left with a cheerful “See you in the funnies.”

Visitation is scheduled from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, February 27, 2025, at Blurton Funeral Home in Hoopeston. A private family service will be conducted, with a burial to follow at Rossville Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made in Bill's name to the Danville Cancer Center or Carle Hospice.
