James Edward Farney, 81, of Hoopeston, passed away at 11:33 a.m. Thursday, November 17, 2016, at his son's home in Hebron, Indiana.
Mr. Farney was born on October 17, 1935, in Iroquois County, the son of Orville and Louise (Huffman) Farney. He married Beverly Hertel on September 24, 1955, in Hoopeston. She preceded him in death on January 19, 1999.
He is survived by one son- Tony (Martha) Farney of Hebron, Indiana; two granddaughters- Cassie Farney of Lake Dale, Indiana and Carissa Farney-McRae of Lowell, Indiana; great-grandson- Jax McRae; two sisters- Imogene Oster of Phoenix, Arizona and Willamae Tuffentsamer of Morton, Illinois; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three sisters- Bernice Farney, Margie King and Joann Davis and four brothers- Gordon, Melvin, Dewayne and Bob Farney.
Mr. Farney worked for several years as a pipefitter/welder for LTV Steel in East Chicago, until he retired in 1985. He attended the Hoopeston United Methodist Church and was a retired member of Steelworker Union #1010. In his younger years he enjoyed flying and he also enjoyed playing cards and pool.
Graveside services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2016, at Floral Hill Cemetery in Hoopeston, with Pastor Cathy Najmon officiating. According to his wishes cremation rites have been accorded by Blurton Funeral Home in Hoopeston. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
