Dorothy Jean Houmes, 84, of Hoopeston, passed away at 5:18 a.m. Wednesday, November 18, 2015, at Heritage Health in Hoopeston.
Mrs. Houmes was born on August 13, 1931, in Rossville, Illinois, the daughter of Robert R. and Blanche (Blagg) McCormick. She was previously married to Carl Houmes and together they had four children- Karla (Alfred) Coon of Hoopeston, Diana (John) Decker of Winterville, North Carolina, Lori Goodrum of Hoopeston and Eric (Kimberly) Houmes of Hoopeston.
Also surviving are ten grandchildren- Angie Totheroh, Heather Moore, Elizabeth Coon, Joseph Decker, William Decker, Rachel Decker, Bryton Goodrum, Erica Mack, Alexander Houmes and Adrienne Houmes; three great-grandchildren- Reeve Pillotte, Soren Moore and Mitchell Grove; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers- Robert D. and Andrew McCormick and one sister- Marjorie Thompson.
Dorothy graduated from Hoopeston Area High School. She worked as an office manager for over 25 years at Schultz Brothers in Hoopeston. After retiring, she enjoyed babysitting her grandchildren. She enjoyed reading, listening to music and doing word search puzzles. Her greatest enjoyment was spending time with her family.
According to her wishes cremation rites have been accorded by the Blurton Funeral Home in Hoopeston. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Saturday, November 21, 2015, at Rossville Cemetery, with Pastor Micah Mobley officiating. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Hoopeston Retirement Village/Heritage Health Nursing Home to assist with the education of CNA's.
